Steppe Metal Powder LLC (SMP) was established in 2017 and currently operates a metal powder production plant that follows strict European standards and guidelines. Located in in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the company uses LME Grade A copper certified by an internationally credited laboratory to produce and sell high-quality copper and copper alloy powders on the international market.

SMP is an export-oriented production plant with a wide network of manufacturers, suppliers, customers, and partners in Europe and Asia. The company utilizes the latest and most advanced British and German technologies and equipment. Our long-term objective is to expand and diversify our product portfolio according to market trends and customer needs. Our current product line is compatible with the needs of the powder metallurgy industry and rapidly developing manufacturing processes such as metal injection molding, hot isostatic pressing, sintering, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).
SMP’s plant and laboratory facilities are fully equipped with modern technology with the intention of having minimal impact on the environment and surrounding community. Our plant not only achieved approval for the Detailed Environmental Impact Assessment by the relevant authorities in 2020, but have taken proactive steps to implement all the actions under contemplation by the DEIA to maximize our sustainability and minimize our impact on the environment.

The plant will establish a base for “SMART” and efficient production of automotive parts, industrial equipment, and electronics. Additionally, SMP will institute an innovative R&D branch with the aim of further expanding our product line to create new products from different types of metal powder.
EMPLOYMENT & PROCUREMENT
At full capacity, the plant employs around 20 full-time highly specialized personnel, creating a unique talent pool in the Mongolian industrial sector. The construction and maintenance of the plant, ancillary facilities, and laboratory involved around 50 domestic and 15 foreign subcontractors.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY OPERATION
SMP’s plant recycles metal scraps, primarily copper, as feed which is then transformed into useful materials of manufacturing. This not only adds value to previously worthless material but makes one of the largest industries in the country more sustainable.
